The HP Scitex LX 850 printer is designed for the environmentally conscious customer, utilizing non-hazard water based inks and print head cartridges manufactured with 70% recycled cardboards.

This printer has outstanding image quality with 6 color printing providing a very wide color gamut and up to 1200dpi resolution capable of supporting 4pt text. This printer is able to deliver stunning quality at production speed. The prints come out completely dry so they are instantly ready for lamination or finishing, giving faster turn around rates.

When printing for light boxes the HP Scitex is able to deliver vibrant, saturated colors at a high productivity speed. For example, backlit and fabrics print at a speed of 291 sq. ft. per hour and for vinyl and POP prints 484 sq. ft. per hour. With prints being dried completely inside the printer we are able to deliver right away as opposed to water-based or solvent ink prints, which usually need to fully dry before packing or mounting. Even vehicle wraps have a faster turn around rate due to the instant dry features! The HP Scitex can print directly to fabric in a one step process, again saving time for the customer. Another key feature with this printer is you wont need to worry about the odor that would regularly be produced with wall coverings because prints that come from the HP Scitex are odorless.

One of the best things about this printer is that the prints last longer! Outdoor prints will last up to three years un-laminated and up to five years laminated. Indoor prints up to five years un-laminated, and up to ten years laminated.

Labor Day is a day focused on celebrating the hard working American. Tectonics alone has many hard working Americans that help make our company successful, but this year for Labor Day we wanted to shine some light on some Americans, whom after all they’ve done for their country, still continue to work hard and give back to their community. So, Tectonics was happy to give something back to them.

The men featured in the above picture are US Vetrans and members of the La Societe des Quarante Hommes at Huit Chevaux (the Society of Forty Men and Eight Horses). Founded in 1920, the Forty and Eight is an independent honor organization, of male and female U.S. veterans. These members are from Voiture 1536, located in Lapeer, Michigan. They contribute much of their time and hard work to charitable events and community service acts that help benefit many communities in Michigan.

Tectonics was more than willing to assist the Forty and Eight members from Voiture 1536 with a new graphic decal for the back of their train. They use this vehicle for parades and other special events. We figured its the least we could do for everything that they’ve done fur us.

Another wrap well done for Powers Distributing! They pride themselves as being “Professional Beer Consultants” and they have over 70 years of successful experience to prove it!

So for a company like Powers Distributing, promotional and event marketing is important and profitable, especially on their vehicles. So, for their H3, we designed a fun 3/4 wrap and side door decals to promote not only two great beers, but a great company as well.

Both graphics on the passenger side and drivers side are designed on a fun, detailed cut, angle. It allows your eye to travel along the graphic and lead you around the vehicle. Having the logos of each beer large and the graphics surrounding, to be bold and bright; catches attention. Which is what you want with a vehicle wrap. While hanging out before the game, we made sure we got a stadium hot dog and a cold Miller Lite. Speaking of Miller Lite, Powers Distributing had their own Tigers spirit ritual they performed this year. In celebration of Miller Lites’ sponsorship with the Detroit Tigers, Powers Distributing teamed up with Tectonics to create a fun and exciting vehicle wrap for their H2 Hummer. Emphasizing on showing both brands, the creative team at Tectonics hit a home run on this wrap.
Powers Distributing was so happy with the design, they added a matching fleet wrap to the job. Even the fans loved this wrap. The Miller Lite and Tigers H2 was parked outside the front of Comerica Park, next to the large Tiger statue. Fans were walking back and forth taking pictures in front of both the Hummer and statue. One fan stated “It’s cool man! I wish I could drive it around!” Another fan asked for us to take a picture of him and his buddies standing in front of the H2, wearing their Tigers gear and holding their Miller Lite beverages. He gave us a high five and said “It’s perfect! My favorite team and my favorite beer, on one of my favorite trucks!” Another fan couldn’t get over the fact that it wasn’t paint. He keep putting his face up close trying to figure out how we did the wrap. After explaining to him a little about the process, he simple said “That’s amazing.” He was even more amazed after we told him that all the tiger stripes and orange rays from the burst are reflective, so it really pops a night!
Vehicle wraps are definitely a great way to market for events, especially one as important as opening day. The design is festive and eye catching. The fans really enjoyed it and it created a lot of buzz for both the Miller Lite brand and the Detroit Tigers brand. And those two things alone are some of the positive outcomes that our clients gain from teaming up with Tectonics to concept, design and produce a grand slam vehicle wrap. This was Lawrence Tech’s Transportation Design Departments’ second year setting up camp at the 2011 NAIAS in Cobo Hall, downtown Detroit, MI.
With a key spot at the front west entrance, of the building, their booth made a great first and lasting impression on press, media, and members of the industry, and Tectonics knows the impact of making a great first impression!

We want to start off by commending the students. They did a tremendous job on showcasing the full design process of their concepts. They designed layouts that focused on showing their projects intricate details, sketches and inspirational pieces. These graphics were printed using our high-resolution, dye-sublimation process, sewn and finished, for the top and bottom part of their display casing. The 3D models of their concepts, displayed inside the clear casing and framed by a FabXFrame System, were nothing short of spectacular!
After seeing the students graphics this year, we were curious to hear what they thought about the outcome of their prints, their opinion on the importance of product display and if they thought their presentation made a strong first impression.

We spoke with students Steve Valente and Nawar Karana, and asked what response they were aspiring for when designing their display graphics and the importance of the look of their displays. They stated “The look of our display was very important, because it had to showcase our work in the best possible way. While keeping in mind the shape of the display structure, we wanted to make sure people could see ALL of our work and we used the graphics as a way to lead peoples eye around the entire display case.” I also asked them if that helped make decisions for the colors they chose for their designs as well. There response, “Yes, definitely, we wanted to use bold colors to attract attention, and this is the first time, we as students, were able to print using this fabric process. The prints turned out great, and the colors are more vibrant then using any paper! So far we’ve had a good turn out, and the displays attributed to attracting more attention to our projects.”

I also asked the head of the Transportation Design Department, Keith Nagara, what he thought of their display booth, how important the look of the display was to him and his program and how he felt about working with Tectonics Industries. He responded “I’m very happy with the look of the booth, and I think the way its designed using the fabric, frame system, and clear display cases allows you to see the students full design process. It’s crucial for the students that the graphic prints are of great quality, so that they can show off their work and get people to stop in and have a look around.” Keith went on to talk about his experience with working with Tectonics Industries. He stated “I’ve been working when Andy (Andy Dobie is one of our Tectonics Sales Representatives) since I started doing the show here, and he’s great! He’s very receptacle to details and is very responsive throughout the entire process. And Christi Jung, (Head of the Tectonics PrePress Department) she is great too, and very helpful and insightful when dealing with our graphics and the printing process! Keith likes the look, quality and usability of our products so much, that he has plans to do the entire display using Tectonics, FabXFrame Systems, printing and fabric products in the future.

We enjoy working with Keith and LTU, and we really enjoyed being able to see the students creative designs. Their ideas are unique and innovative and their work truly speaks for itself. These students are making their mark in this competitive transportation industry, and may obtain promising and successful positions in the future, with some of the largest companies in the world. And when that time comes, we hope that Tectonics made as good of an impression on the students, as they did on us!
